Singapore Polytechnic (SP), acting through the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), announced a new collaborations with industry partner Qualcomm Technologies on 8 April 2024.

In November 2023, SP and Qualcomm Technologies Inc. (QTI) officially signed the Master Qualcomm Wireless Academy Training Program Agreement. SP is the first IHL in Singapore to collaborate with Qualcomm, to offer students access to key areas in 5G training such as 5G, LTE Advanced and C-V2X among others, via Qualcomm Academy, the training arm of Qualcomm. Students will receive free 5G training, with the option to earn a 5G Certificate from Qualcomm to enhance their job prospects in the 5G digital ecosystem.

Starting this April, Year 3 students from the Diploma in Computer Engineering (DCPE) specialising in either "Computer Applications" or "Smart City Technologies" will have the opportunity to participate in this program. These students will embark on two beginner-level courses from Qualcomm Academy's “5G University Program": "5G Primer" and "Fundamentals of Cellular Communication and 5G".

This collaboration is expected to benefit approximately 150 students per academic year and aligns with both SP's and Qualcomm's commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators and wireless engineers, empowering them with the requisite skills and knowledge to transform the 5G landscape in Singapore and beyond.
